ACSI Competitions

ACSI COMPETITIONSThe students at First Baptist Christian School have many opportunities to compete against other Christian schools through the Student Activities program with ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International). This program seeks to encourage and inspire students toward a standard of excellence in leadership, communication, and performance by enhancing the academic and fine arts education programs of individual schools. It provides opportunities for the practical application and development of skills necessary for confident Christian leadership.
In the fall, students in grades 5-8 compete within their classrooms in a preliminary Spelling Bee. From there, the two winners at each grade level go on to represent FBCS in the ACSI District competition. We have had several students finish as one of the top five, enabling them to go on in competition at the regional level. We even had one student go all the way to the national level in representing FBCS! In late winter, students in grades 3-8 compete in the ACSI District Math Olympics against 10+ Christian schools with over 200 students involved. They take four written, 11-minute, timed tests in math problems, in the reasoning or computation category, that are beyond their present grade level. Prior to the event, we hold a Math Enrichment Program after school for several weeks where the teachers guide the students to master math topics beyond their grade level and improve their calculation speed and accuracy. Each year, between 18-24 FBCS students participate and 50-75% of those competing earn awards. Finally, in the spring, students in grades 1-8 compete against other Christian schools in the Arts Festival. First, we have an internal judging of all the student art work completed over the year. Those garnering the most points are then sent on to the ACSI District competition. Depending on the proximity of the competition location, our art teacher, Mrs. Hadden, takes the older students for the day to participate in an enriching art experience. There are four best-of-show ribbons awarded each year and FBCS typically receives two or three of them. |
