In addition to the core academic subjects, students also receive instruction in computers, music, art and physical education each week.
Beginning in second grade, students have one 40 minute computer period each week. Each student has his own computer station and the classes begin with a brief typing activity to develop keyboarding skills and increase typing fluency. The remainder of the class features project-based learning using curriculum from TechnoKids. These projects include engaging computer activities for students of all ages, using various components of Microsoft Office that integrate into language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and visual arts. Lessons designed specifically with computer technology for children help prepare our students for the future.

All students in PK4-5th grade are required to take music class and the middle school students may choose music as one of their electives each semester. Our music program is primarily choral instruction in preparation for our major dramatic musical presentations: Grandparents Day, Christmas Program and Spring Arts Festival. In addition to the participating middle school students, 5th grade students are eligible to tryout for cast roles or soloist parts. All of our programs are Biblically based; hence the goal of our programs is not audience entertainment but rather to clearly present the message of the gospel.
All middle school students are welcome to apply for membership in the worship team that leads our weekly worship time in chapel on Wednesdays.
Art is required for all our kindergarten-5th grade students and the middle school students have the option of selecting art as one of their electives each semester. The students love art and frequently wear orange on their particular art day as this is Mrs. Hadden's favorite color!
Our art program consists of studying the Elements of Art (line, shape, form, texture, value, space and color) and the Principles of Design (emphasis, unity, balance, contrast, and repetition). We put this knowledge together to help transform our students into amazing artists.
The mediums used are: Oil paints and oil pastels, watercolors including techniques such as wet on wet, dry brushing, scratching and salting. We also use liquid watercolors, gouache and watercolor colored pencils. We paint with acrylic and use blending mediums such as gloss mediums, gel mediums and modeling paste. They explore drawing techniques using drawing pencils, colored pencils, pastels, and charcoal. We create 2 and 3 dimensional pieces of artwork. We carve, sculpt and create bas relief. We study the artwork of various arts and the time periods of art and let those arts and techniques inspire us.
Our Spring Arts Festival held each May features a showcase of the students' artwork from all year. Our gymnasium is transformed into an art gallery for one week and the pieces that earned award ribbons from the Art Festival competition are featured in the center of the gym. Friday is gym day at FBCS! All students wear their school-issued gym uniforms with sneakers for the full day. Our gym classes vary from 30 - 40 minutes in length and feature a warm-up time followed by a special game or activity.
